The VBrick Windows Media encoder is a non PC based appliance in small form factor, rugged and portable casing which captures and converts audio and video signal to Windows Media format suitable for web cast/video streaming using IP network.

The VBrick Windows Media encoder is a web cast/video streaming server by itself. It is able to stream 200 unicast streams and unlimited multicast streams by itself.

The VBrick Windows Media encoder has an optional 60GB hard disk which can be used to record audio and video at the source end. Upon completion of recording, it can FTP the file automatically to a VBrick Windows Media Video-On-Demand (VOD) server for archive and on-demand playback.

For a live web cast deployment with users from many decentralized locations, the same VBrick Windows Media encoder can be deployed at each branch location and configured as a reflector. In this case, the VBrick Windows Media encoder will push only 1 stream to the reflector. All users at the branch location will request and receive streams from the reflector, and this approach minimizes inter-office bandwidth congestion.

For deployment that needs to have user access control and authentication, a VBrick VEMS portal server will be required.

At the receiver end, the following can be used to receive the live or on-demand streams:

  • PC with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Microsoft Media Player
  • VBrick Windows Media IP Receiver.
