The VidyoRouter is the heart of the VidyoConferencing system.

It is like the MCU of a traditional multipoint video conferencing deployment. However the VidyoRouter does not encoding and decoding video-audio packages. As encoding and decoding occurs only at the endpoints in VidyoConferencing solution, the VidyoRouter receives the IP packages from all sending endpoints connected together in a web conferencing meeting, and intelligently route them to the receiving endpoints.

Given that different endpoints produce different resolutions, quality and video frame rate because of the amount of processing power and bandwidth available; and different endpoints can receive different video resolution due to the limitations in bandwidth, processing power or screen resolution; the VidyoRouter constantly tests and recalibrates what it should be passing along, and sending along only as many packets as an endpoint is capable of handling, to ensure that each endpoint is provided with the highest quality video it is capable of receiving. By doing so, the VidyoRouter provides rate matching, error localization and supports composited layouts just like a traditional MCU.

VidyoRouter

VidyoRouter ensures that this packet–switching is handled with optimal efficiency – without either degrading the quality of the video or adding noticeable latency, and ensures a video experience of continuous quality that is free of blurry images and broken pictures.

Each VidyoRouter supports up to 100 HD ports and managed by a VidyoPortal. Ports may move among a set of VidyoRouters which reduce the cost of redundancy and geographical distribution.
